In 1977, Ahearn Equipment was established by Tim and Donna Ahearn, behind their house in rural North Brookfield. Raised on a dairy farm, Tim Ahearn had developed a natural mechanical ability and was well known in the local farming community. Ahearn Equipment was founded upon Tim's principles of honesty and quality.
The business began as a mobile repair service and eventually warranted building a 60'X40' shop behind the house. In 1981, Tim and Donna were able to acquire the White Farm Equipment line of tractors. Shortly thereafter, Yanmar also agreed to partner with Ahearn Equipment. In 1985, Ahearn Equipment was selected as one of Yanmar's most outstanding dealers.
By 1988, Ahearn Equipment had outgrown its location in North Brookfield. The business was moved to its current location on Route 9 in Spencer. the 12,000 sq ft. building that was constructed was nearly 5 times the size of the building where the business began.
Also in 1988, Ahearn Equipment signed an agreement with a little known manufacturer named Kubota. Shortly after moving the business to Spencer in 1989, White Farm Equipment and Yanmar ceased their U.S. operations, leaving Kubota as the only remaining tractor brand sold by Ahearn Equipment. Fortunately though, Kubota was producing some of the finest compact tractors made, and people began to recognize the quality and value that came along with a Kubota Product.
In 1992, Ahearn Equipment found a way to diversify by adding a NAPA Auto Parts store. NAPA became in integral part of the business through the 1990's, while the Agricultural Industry in New England continued to dwindle. As the decade wore on, Ahearn Equipment Thrived with the Kubota and Cub Cadet product lines.
Early in the new Millenium, sons Jeremy and Josh joined the business, and helped to increase the product offering to include more compact construction equipment. Between 2003 and 2008, Ahearn Equipment doubled in size.
In 2006, Ahearn Equipment expanded with a 12,000 sq ft addition. The 2 story building would house a 6000 sq ft service facility, and expanded showroom and parts areas. The greater service capacity enabled work on larger machines and faster turn around times. Additionally, 2 acres of outdoor storage and service area were developed, allowing Ahearn Equipment to carry a more extensive inventory
Today, the business is thriving and growing. With nearly 40 employees, Ahearn Equipment is commited to is mission of delivering "Family Quality and Value, One Customer at a Time."
